Adding Landy life

Restoring a 1968 Land Rover Series II to its full glory is not for the unexperienced or the faint of heart. It’s a meticulous endeavor that requires precision, expertise, and a deep devotion to quality craftsmanship.

This 1968 Land Rover Series II had been the client’s long-time Old Faithful, but the creaking of the old Landy were just getting to be too many. Brakes didn’t function, electrical gremlins, well everywhere, suspension - what suspension?, gears that whined, whirred and popped out - and just an endless list of “stuff”. The client wanted to preserve the patina of the car but wanted the rest expertly restored.

Rugged & Ready

Just because it doesn’t look glossy, doesn’t mean it it drives poorly - especially not after we were done overhauling the engine with new bearings, gaskets and of course the ever-present task of tuning the carburetor to make this old 2.25l four cylinder Rover engine purr like new. The mechanical overhaul did not stop there but also included rebuilding the gearbox and transfer case with an old school over drive unit.

This project was about giving this 1968 Land Rover Series II back to its cult classic status and make it enjoyable for the next leg of its life. Finding parts and having the skills to rejuvenating these old Land Rover Series 4x4s require an unwavering commitment to excellence, craftsmanship, research and access to parts and expertise. But that’s just what we do.

Some highlights include:

  • Rebuilt transmission and gearbox: The transmission and gearbox underwent a full rebuild and reseal, including replacing springs, synchros, ball bearings.

  • Replaced engine crank bearing, engine front crank seal, and engine rear main seal
